Manchester City Centre is the place to be this Halloween weekend, with ghosts and ghouls taking over the city’s buildings and landmarks and plenty family-fun to be had!

Pick up a map and explore the city with the kids on a Trick or Treat Trail; find a sweet or scary surprise behind giant doors and claim your sweet prize at the end. Join in the fun at Exchange Square’s Halloween main stage introducing family DJs, live performances and short films; stick around until nighttime and see the shops and buildings glow a ghostly green for Halloween.



Monster Invasion

The monsters are coming! Look out, look up, beware…The monsters will be lurking and hiding on city centre buildings.

Don’t miss the creepy creatures and monster eyes peeping through the windows of Afflecks, Debenhams and Marks & Spencer.



The Halloween Main Stage

Head to Exchange Square, where our main stage – decked out with giant cemetery gates and gatekeeper, plus Insta-friendly gruesome gravestones – plays host to Heart, CBeebies and CBBC. With live music, entertainment, pop-up street food, coffee and deadly games to keep you entertained (anyone fancy trying to best Death at chess?), there’s no scarier place to be over the Halloween weekend. FREE ENTRY.

1pm-2.30pm: Heart presents the Ghostly World Record Attempt

Celebrate all things spooky as the nation’s favourite children’s channels present a selection of family favourites: Hey Duggee, Sarah & Duck, Go Jetters, School of Roars, Scream Street, Zig & Zag, Creeped Out, Worst Witch, Strange Hill High, and a premier of the new Danger Mouse Halloween special.

Room on the Broom Zone, St Annes Square

Next February, Z-arts host A World Inside a Book: Gruffalos, Dragons and Other Creatures, an immersive exhibition of the world of children’s author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler. Get a taste of the exhibition this Halloween, at the Room on the Broom-inspired experience in the Enchanted Forest. Meet witches and wizards, make potions, join our Magic School and take a seat on a real-life broomstick – with seats for everyone (including the cat, the dog, the frog and the bird).

The Freaky Festival feat. Baked Ala Ska

Join the family friendly, festival-style party, with live bands and brilliant DJs, including the “utterly bonkers but irresistible” – Manchester Evening News, 7-piece ska band, Baked Ala Ska.

The Enchanted Forest 

Thirty birch trees, each 4 metres high, pitch up in St. Ann’s Square, a pop-up forest that’s home to witches and magical creatures – including the witch’s house from our Trick or Treat Trail, a witch boot camp, sweet treats, face painting, a sensory zone for the under 5s, and a chance to meet the witch from the popular children’s book Room on the Broom. Trees provided by Real Oasis.

Saturday – Sunday 10am – 7pm



The Pumpkin Patch Sensory Play Zone

Inside one of our witch’s huts is a sensory play area with an artificial grass floor, woodland-themed soft play, a wobbly witch and cauldron, sensory lights, a calming woodland projected onto the walls, the sounds of the forest – and cute pumpkin beanbags for little ones to jump on.

Trick or Treat Trail

Get your spook on courtesy of this creepy trail around the city centre. Pick up a map and discover four trick or treat houses scattered across the city – there’s a different monster at each, waiting to greet you. Check off all four and collect a special sweet treat in St Ann’s Square

Go Green for Halloween

A host of city centre shops and buildings give off a ghostly glow this Halloween: check out the ghoulishly green façades of Manchester Town Hall, Paperchase, MediaCom, Manchester Hall, Afflecks, Harvey Nichols and more.
