Halloween in the City Manchester

Manchester City Centre is the place to be this Halloween weekend, with ghosts and ghouls taking over the city’s buildings and landmarks, there’s plenty family-fun to be had!

Pick up a map and explore the city with the kids on a Trick or Treat Trail; find a sweet or scary surprise behind giant doors and claim your treat!

Join in the family-friendly activities inside a spooky tent, watch the strolling bones parade, get a taste of Julia Donaldson stories from Manchester’s favourite kids’ arts centre Z-Arts, and if stick around until nighttime you’ll see city centre landmarks glow a ghostly green for Halloween.


Monster Invasion

The monsters are coming! Look out, look up, beware…The monsters will be lurking and hiding on city centre buildings.

CBBC & CBeebies Spooky Screenings, Workshops and Meet and Greets

Get into the Halloween spirit with screenings of CBBC and CBeebies’ Halloween specials, plus a host of family friendly fun inside a spooky tent.

The Strolling Bones

An unmissable, bone-jangling roaming performance from Walk the Plank – the creative minds behind the city’s Manchester Day parade. Catch their procession of skeleton puppets, stilt walkers, unicycle performers, five-piece band and dancers all led by the delectable Grimm Rita.

Trick or Treat Trail

Get your spook on courtesy of this creepy trail around the city centre. Pick up a map and discover trick or treat houses scattered across the city – there’s a different monster at each, waiting to greet you. Check off all four and collect a special sweet treat.

Go Green for Halloween

A host of city centre shops and buildings give off a ghostly glow this Halloween.

Manchester’s favourite kids’ arts centre, Z-Arts, offers up a taste of the exhibition A World Inside a Book – Gruffalos, Dragons and Other Creatures, dedicated to the children’s author, Julia Donaldson. Head to Manchester Arndale to meet some of her best-loved characters and enjoy magical storytelling sessions of Room on the Broom.

Creepy Carnival

Don’t look now: Grimm Rita’s Creepy Carnival takes spectral twists and turns along New Cathedral Street – a family-friendly freakshow bursting with street performers, sideshow stalls and a traditional Helter-skelter. Don’t miss the Strolling Bones parade, led by Grimm Rita herself, as it moves between the Carnival and Dr. Mancenstein’s Castle.

Pumpkin Lanterns

The city’s shopping streets get a Halloween makeover, as of thousands of pumpkin lanterns stand guard over the city’s streets and shops.
